I get it. It's a changing world. But does that mean that we have to bring politics and sports together the way we have recently?
I mean when I go to a baseball game, I am trying to get away from reality for a bit and enjoy the game, not worry whether the players are going to protest something political or not.
Yes, it's their platform. They are the ones doing a job. But who are the people paying for them to be able to go out and perform.
I get it, athletes get sponsorships and other ways of making money, but at the same time, the fans pour their money into those companies that sponsor the athletes and pour money into going to the sporting events.
For what reason though? In order to be able to enjoy something in everyday life. Professional athletes give us something to talk about in everyday life, something to go and do when we get home from our 9-5's.
Heck, they are what I am hoping will give me a career for the rest of my life.
Yes, the athletes get the floor. They are the ones working hard to have a career and get paid the big bucks. However, as a fan, I would rather see politics taken back out of sports.
If I want to watch politics, I will tune into the news. When I want to watch sports, I want to watch sports. I do not care whether or not their feelings are hurt by something happening or not happening in the real world.
All of this protesting and complaining about what somebody tweeted seven years ago is getting a little out of hand. I get that the athletes want to make a difference by protesting, but all it really seems to be doing is causing bigger issues that don't need to exist. I get that the MLB has to treat every tweet the same, whether it was said yesterday or said a decade ago, but at the same time, people change, so those tweets might not even be relevant to them anymore.
Like I said, I get that this world is changing, but it does not mean everything in the world needs to change. Sports and politics intertwining is not a good combination. They should stay as separate as possible, as all it seems to do is cause debate and debacle.
